Home/Geek Life & Pastimes / Month in Review / February Viewing Recap: A Month of Sci-Fi and Data Exploration

February marked a shift in my viewing habits, with more of a focus on quality over quantity. I watched only 12 movies this month but made significant progress in my TV show marathons. Here’s a breakdown of my month in entertainment:

TV Show Highlights:

  • I completed my “Blue Bloods” binge-watch. I’m excited about the upcoming spin-off centred on Danny’s character and a move to Boston.
  • I nearly finished another rewatch of “The Expanse,” feeding my sci-fi cravings.

Viewing Statistics:

  • Total watch time: 289 hours (significantly less than January’s 1462 hours)
  • Most-watched Genre: Science Fiction (overtaking Drama from January)

The stark difference in viewing hours between January and February is largely due to my recent adoption of Trakt and the initial data import process. As I continue using the service, these monthly reviews should provide a more accurate reflection of my viewing patterns.

Trakt Exploration:

I’ve been diving deep into Trakt’s features this month:

  • Building an extensive watchlist
  • Experimenting with IFTTT and RSS feeds to create a spreadsheet for better “next watch” recommendations
  • Reset my Trakt ratings for a fresh start

Notable Watches:

  • I rewatched “The Greatest Showman” – in my opinion, the best musical film ever made. Its storyline and music resonate with me on multiple levels.
  • I attempted to start a Terminator franchise marathon but hit a roadblock with the unavailability of the third movie.

Quirky Viewing Habits:

  • February 8th shows an unusually high activity due to adding “The Big Bang Theory” rewatch. It’s my go-to show for relaxing before sleep and will likely appear in future monthly recaps.

Trakt Appreciation

I can’t emphasize enough how impressive Trakt’s service is. For fellow data enthusiasts and avid watchers, it’s an invaluable tool for tracking and analyzing viewing habits. While the free version is great, I highly recommend the paid subscription for its enhanced features.

As I continue to refine my use of Trakt, I’m looking forward to even more insightful monthly recaps and a deeper understanding of my viewing patterns.
